The position is assigned to GSI’s contribution to Work Package “Science Data Platform”. The aim is to further develop the PUNCH Science Data Platform as a user-oriented environment for finding, curating, linking and reusing research data, metadata, Digital Research Products, workflows and research software. In addition, the position will support the institutional implementation and further development of PUNCH-compliant research data management processes at GSI.
Your tasks:
Contribute to the development and integration of the PUNCH Science Data Platform as a central access point for research data, metadata, Digital Research Products, workflows and scientific tools.
Support the service- and metadata-based integration of PUNCH components, in particular authentication and authorization mechanisms, registries, workflow tools, metadata services and user-facing platform components.

Develop and maintain components for metadata-based discovery, data finding, DRP publication and registration of analysis outputs.
Work with common and domain-specific metadata, search and filtering functionality, JSON/API-based data exchange, and links between data, software, workflows and publications.
Support workflow-oriented platform functionality, including resource monitoring, code-to-data approaches, provenance capture and the reuse of research outputs.
Contribute to the further development of GSI-internal research data management services, in particular by improving local metadata, repository, software and publication workflows and by developing interoperable interfaces between existing services.
Prepare technical documentation, usage guidelines, examples and onboarding material for PUNCH4NFDI and GSI-internal research data management services.
Coordinate with scientific user groups, technical contact persons and project partners within GSI, PUNCH4NFDI and the NFDI.
Your profile:
Completed university degree at Master’s or Diploma level in computer science, data science, physics, computational science, data management or a comparable field.
Knowledge of scientific software development, data modelling and web-based research data infrastructures.
Experience with Python or comparable programming languages, relational databases, REST interfaces, Git-based software development and structured metadata formats such as JSON.
Knowledge of metadata schemas, FAIR principles, research data management workflows, persistent identifiers, repository systems and data/software publication are beneficial.
Experience with Django, REACT or comparable web frameworks, authentication and authorization mechanisms, containerized environments, workflow systems or CI/CD processes is desirable.
Ability to work at the interface between software development, research data management and scientific user support.
Structured, independent and team-oriented way of working, as well as good communication skills.
Good written and spoken English; German language skills are an advantage.
