The Faculty of Mathematics at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) has a strong research profile and offers a broad and high-quality teaching portfolio across six degree programmes. It hosts numerous doctoral researchers from Germany and abroad. In addition, it is involved in interdisciplinary projects and makes a substantial contribution to the teaching of fundamental mathematical subjects for other faculties. The advertised professorship is located at the Institute of Mathematical Stochastics, one of the four institutes within the Faculty.

We are seeking an individual (d/f/m) with a strong academic track record in applied statistics, demonstrated through diverse scholarly achievements, who develops statistical methods motivated by practical problems and analyses them on a rigorous mathematical basis. Particular emphasis is placed on modern methods related to data science and artificial intelligence that are grounded in mathematics, practically applicable, and theoretically well-founded.

Further desirable qualifications include experience in application-oriented statistical research projects, for example in industry or in the social sciences, engineering, natural sciences, or economics, as well as experience in acquiring and managing third-party funded research projects. A willingness to design and implement such projects within interdisciplinary collaborations is expected.

The responsibilities of the professorship include teaching in the degree programmes of the Faculty of Mathematics as well as service teaching for other faculties. Teaching should prepare students for the critical and reflective use of statistical and AI-based methods and should expand the curriculum through new modules. Relevant experience in independent teaching and the ability to teach in both German and English are expected.
