W3 Professorship in Plant Engineering and Process Safety (m/f/d)

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile.

The successful candidate will represent the field of Plant Engineering and Process Safety in both research and teaching, and must hold the relevant scientific qualifications. Outstanding research achievements, a proven track record in teaching, and experience in acquiring third-party funded projects are required.

Research interests should lie in the area of Plant Engineering and Process Safety. Topics of particular interest include the safe application of hydrogen technologies and electrochemical energy storage, industrial fire and explosion protection, and risk analysis in process engineering facilities. Expanding the research profile towards transformation technologies in the context of the energy transition is explicitly encouraged.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Faculty’s cross-cutting priorities in the areas of energy technology and sustainability. Active collaboration with research institutions such as PTB Braunschweig and BAM Berlin, as well as the cultivation of industrial partnerships beyond the university, are desirable.

The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering places great importance on the quality of teaching and student supervision. In addition to continuing the core courses in Plant Engineering and Process Safety at Bachelor and Master level, the appointee is expected to sustain and further develop the degree programmes “Sicherheit und Gefahrenabwehr” (consecutive Bachelor and Master, offered jointly with Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences) and “Process Safety and Environmental Engineering” (international Master – the only programme of its kind at a German university). Teaching contributions in English are required. In addition, the successful candidate is also expected to teach in German. If they do not yet possess the necessary German language skills at the time of appointment, these must be acquired within two years after appointment.
