The Abwasserbeseitigung Wöllstein-Wörrstadt AöR (AWW) is a joint public institution that was founded on January 1, 2022, by the municipalities of Wöllstein and Wörrstadt. It is responsible for all wastewater disposal in this area, which includes 21 municipalities with over 43,000 inhabitants.
The main task of the AWW is the discharge and environmentally sound disposal of sewage and surface water, as well as the treatment and disposal of the resulting sewage sludge. To fulfill these tasks, the AWW operates six sewage treatment plants, a canal network of around 297 km, as well as numerous rain relief structures, pumping stations and other special structures.
The AWW is committed to reliable, safe and economical wastewater disposal. The highest demands on environmental protection and sustainability are always taken into account. The AWW continuously invests in modern technologies and innovative processes to improve the cleaning performance of the sewage treatment plants and minimize environmental pollution.

By using sewage sludge for energy generation, CO2 emissions are reduced and a contribution is made to climate protection. The goal is to operate energy-self-sufficient sewage treatment plants and thus make an important contribution to the energy transition.
The AWW is aware of its responsibility towards the environment and the citizens and is committed to sustainable wastewater disposal. This also includes measures to reduce micro-pollutants such as microplastic particles and drug residues. The AWW is constantly working on improving the cleaning processes in order to remove these substances from the wastewater and protect the water quality.
