The Abwasserzweckverband Breisgauer Bucht is the largest wastewater association in Baden-Württemberg and was founded in 1966. It is responsible for the collection and treatment of wastewater in 29 member municipalities, including the city of Freiburg. The association operates an extensive sewer network of approximately 140 km in length, as well as a large wastewater treatment plant in Forchheim, which is designed for 660,000 population equivalents.
