The Aktionsbündnis Seelische Gesundheit is a nationwide initiative that has been successfully advocating for the promotion of mental health since 2006. With over 180 member organizations - including self-help associations of those affected and their relatives, medical associations, scientific societies and medical competence networks - it forms a strong network against stigmatization.[4][2][7]
The alliance coordinates nationwide anti-stigma initiatives, educational and prevention projects. It organizes annual campaigns around the WHO World Mental Health Day and the Week of Mental Health, in which around 50 regions and cities participate with hundreds of events. Examples include prevention programs for schools, universities and companies, as well as nationwide contact points for relatives, such as those of Desideria Care e.V. or Irrsinnig menschlich e.V..[2][8] These measures strengthen those affected, raise public awareness and anchor the topic in politics and society.[4][5]
The main mission is: Mental health concerns us all. The alliance is committed to prevention of mental illnesses, education about causes and treatments, and destigmatization. The goal is a non-prejudicial approach to people with mental illnesses, which affect almost one in three people in Germany at some point.[1][4][5] Core values are Trialogik - equal cooperation between experts, those affected and their relatives - as well as inclusion and networking. The steering group with 12 members from all areas manages the work and decides on new partners.[2][5]
Initiated in 2004 by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie, Psychosomatik und Nervenheilkunde e.V. (DGPPN) and the association Open the doors, the alliance was presented in 2006 at the DGPPN Congress. The first Charter of Goals and Tasks followed in 2007, updated in 2019, which defines the dynamic process of further development.[2][5] The DGPPN assumes the content responsibility.[3]
In the long term, the alliance strives for a sustainable anchoring of the topic in society, the professional world and politics. It combats exclusion, promotes acceptance and integrates mental health into prevention and integration. For over two decades, it has reduced stigmatization and built networks - a milestone was the initiative congress in 2006 with over 180 participants on education, prevention and integration.[4][2] The network is currently growing, with a focus on barrier-free participation.[7]
The Aktionsbündnis makes mental health a social issue and creates real change through cooperation and commitment.[1][4]
