The Albert-Schweitzer-Familienwerk Bayern e.V. is a non-profit association that focuses on supporting children and adolescents who cannot grow up with their parents. The association was founded in 1996 and offers differentiated services in the form of children's village houses, small homes, foster care placements, as well as kindergartens and day nurseries. The facilities are manageable and enable individual care by professional educators who act as house parents.
The mission of the Albert-Schweitzer-Familienwerk is based on the image of humanity and the ethics of Albert Schweitzer, especially his maxim "Reverence for Life". The association values the creation of humane and manageable facilities that meet the individual needs of the people they care for.
Although the Albert-Schweitzer-Familienwerk Bayern e.V. does not pursue specific sustainability goals in the environmental sense, it contributes to sustainable development through its social work by providing disadvantaged children and adolescents with a safe environment and preparing them for a self-determined life.
There are several organizations that refer to Albert Schweitzer, such as the Albert Schweitzer Foundation for our Environment, which focuses on animal welfare and animal rights. This foundation is committed to abolishing factory farming and promoting a vegan lifestyle. In contrast, the Albert-Schweitzer-Familienwerk Bayern e.V. focuses on the social support of children and adolescents.
