The
The Albert-Schweitzer-Kinderdorf Berlin e.V. is an independent provider of child and youth welfare, founded in 1960 as the second Albert-Schweitzer-Kinderdorf in Germany. The foundation of our work is the idea of caring for and educating children and adolescents who cannot grow up in their families of origin in family-like communities, a concept that was explicitly supported by our namesake Albert Schweitzer.
Our work is characterized by the Christian-humanistic values of Albert Schweitzer, particularly his lived humanity and his consistent advocacy for all life. Our goal is to allow children and adolescents to grow up in a safe and supportive environment and to give them the opportunity to shape their own future. We are committed to preserving proven methods and proactively addressing new challenges to meet the needs of children and families[2].
The association has continuously expanded its services to provide family-supporting and promoting offerings. Since 2005, the children's village has operated daycare centers and family centers in Berlin-Lichtenberg. The Spandau Family House, opened in 2017, offers an innovative solution for families in crisis situations. Through close cooperation with other organizations, such as the PARITÄTischen Berlin and the Association of Albert Schweitzer Children's Villages and Family Works, we are working nationwide to increase the visibility of our work and gain further supporters[2][3].
The Albert-Schweitzer-Kinderdorf Berlin e.V. is led by a voluntary board, supported by the board of trustees and full-time employees. The administrative structure includes two offices and is a member of the PARITÄTischen Berlin, which promotes professional exchange and advocacy for our work[2].
