Amigos de la Cultura e.V. is a non-profit association active since 2015, dedicated to promoting intercultural exchange between Germany and South America. With heart and passion, the association connects host families in Germany with young people from Bolivia and Colombia to create lasting friendships and cultural enrichment.[1][4][6]
The main mission of Amigos de la Cultura is: "My house is your house" - or in Spanish "Mi casa es tu casa". The association creates opportunities to get to know new cultures, promote cosmopolitanism and build international connections. Central values are cosmopolitanism, tolerance and mutual understanding. As a German-Bolivian founding couple – Maria Belen Michel-Suarez and Franz-Josef Michel – the initiators use their personal experiences as former host families and exchange students to ensure authentic support.[1][4]
The association works closely with partners and schools in Germany and South America. Every year, around 50 young people aged 14 to 16 come to Germany for stays of three to six months. They attend local schools, improve their language skills and become full family members in host families.[6][5]
Amigos de la Cultura offers a comprehensive exchange program that is designed personally and individually - from the initial decision to the departure of the guest child. This includes:
What distinguishes the association: The deep knowledge of both cultures and countries enables a unique mediating role. Volunteer board members, association members and full-time employees ensure close networking. Host families can exchange ideas in digital or on-site meetings and receive advice.[1][6]
As a provider of FREE youth welfare, Amigos de la Cultura is also actively committed to the protection of children and young people, which guarantees the highest standards of care.[1]
Although explicit sustainability goals are not listed in detail, the association's work makes a sustainable contribution to cultural diversity and global understanding. The initiatives promote long-term friendships and impulses for a more cosmopolitan life - an enrichment for generations. Testimonials from families underline the value: "We wanted to bring other cultures closer to our grandchildren" or "A great introduction to a new country".[1][4]
The small, dedicated team includes the volunteer board, members and full-time staff. The association is currently represented by Peter Michel and Rolf Büttner (as of the imprint). Vacancies such as coordinator for host families or personal assistant to the management show the growth and the search for motivated support.[7][5][9]
Amigos de la Cultura e.V. not only creates exchange, but real multicultural symbioses that change lives. Through personal proximity and professional expertise, the association remains a reliable partner for intercultural adventures.[1][2][4]
