The AWO Obertshausen operates a number of forest kindergartens in the Offenbach district and in the Main-Kinzig district, which are characterized by a holistic, nature-oriented educational philosophy. The central idea is that children are cared for and supported outdoors, in the middle of nature, all year round. Instead of prefabricated toys, the focus is on free, creative play with natural materials such as sticks, leaves, bark or clay. This conscious renunciation of conventional toys creates space for imagination, creativity and individual development.
The pedagogical work is based on the needs and self-development capabilities of the children. In the forest, they experience the seasons, ecological cycles and transformation processes up close and holistically. Daily rituals, shared breakfast rounds, singing, storytelling and scenic performances create a reliable structure that provides orientation, support and security. The children learn to appreciate themselves and their environment, develop social skills and grow up with a deep connection to nature.
A special focus is on promoting movement, communication and environmental awareness. The children move in a variety of ways - they run, climb, balance, sneak and discover their habitat in a playful way. Daily exercise in the forest not only strengthens motor skills, but also the immune system. Non-violent and mindful communication as well as the moderation of conflicts promote linguistic development and mutual understanding.
The forest kindergartens of the AWO Obertshausen attach great importance to sustainability and environmental protection. The children experience nature as a habitat and learn to respect and protect it. The educational offers are designed to create an awareness of ecological connections and to educate children to be responsible, mindful people.
The facilities offer a natural, alternative form of care that responds to the individual needs of the children and gives them a strong connection to nature. The forest kindergartens are a place where children can develop freely, live out their curiosity and gain valuable experiences for life.
