The GdW, together with its regional audit associations, is committed to promoting the cooperative legal form in housing construction. The aim is to reduce hurdles in the establishment of housing cooperatives and to bring the advantages of this communal form of housing more into focus.
The GdW offers a comprehensive package of measures to support new foundations. These include free initial consultations for founding initiatives, the subsidization of founding audits and ongoing audits in the first few years, as well as special seminar offers. In addition, the GdW provides free materials and templates to facilitate the founding process.
The GdW supports the creation of a well-founded business plan, which serves as the basis for the founding audit and plausibly presents the economic assumptions. The founding audit itself is a special feature of cooperatives and serves to protect members and creditors from dishonest or risky foundations.
The mission of the GdW is to strengthen the cooperative idea, in which the promotion of the members and their social and cultural concerns is in the foreground, not profit maximization. The cooperative structure is based on democratic principles, in which each member is not only a capital provider but also a business partner.
The GdW promotes sustainable building and living and supports cooperatives in realizing innovative housing projects that enable communal and self-determined living. Many cooperatives focus on ecological construction methods, accessibility and the creation of lively neighborhoods.
The GdW and its partners contribute to ensuring that housing cooperatives represent a sustainable alternative in the housing market and make an important contribution to social cohesion.
