The Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst shapes the future of Bavaria by promoting science, research, art and culture. As the highest service authority of the Free State of Bavaria, it is responsible for the further development of the Bavarian higher education landscape, the support of research projects and the preservation of the country's rich cultural heritage.

Through the Hightech Agenda Bayern, future technologies are promoted and Bavaria is strengthened as an internationally leading location for science and innovation.
A particular concern is the promotion of the Bavarian art and culture scene. The Ministry supports museums, theaters, orchestras and other cultural institutions throughout the Free State. It awards art prizes and scholarships to promote artists and preserve the diversity of cultural life in Bavaria.
