The BayZiel - Bayerisches Zentrum für Innovative Lehre is a central driving force for higher education didactics innovations in Bavaria and a joint institution of the 17 state Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences and the Technical Universities. In addition, two church universities - the Evangelische Hochschule Nürnberg and the Katholische Stiftungshochschule München - participate as associated partners[1][4]. BayZiel works to sustainably secure and continuously develop the quality and future viability of university teaching in Bavaria[1][5].
BayZiel bundles the competencies of Bavarian universities in three central business areas that promote innovative teaching and learning[1][2]*:
With around 20 employees, BayZiel supports around 6,000 teachers at Bavarian universities, organizes networks, certificate programs and invites them to exchange ideas in interdisciplinary communities[1][4].
The mission of BayZiel is to continuously improve university teaching in Bavaria through innovation, networking and professional development and to provide new impetus for the development of study formats[1][5]. BayZiel sees itself as a partner of the universities, promotes collegial exchange, interdisciplinary cooperation and the transfer of research results into practice. Central values are quality, innovation, practicality and social responsibility. The institution works closely with universities, scientific organizations and other partners to create a sustainable and practice-oriented higher education system that is fit for the future[1][4].
BayZiel is committed to sustainable, digital and equal opportunity higher education:
BayZiel is a jointly supported organization whose steering committee is made up of presidents of Bavarian universities[2]. The operational management is the responsibility of a management team under the current responsibility of Prof. Dr. Peter Riegler[3]. Organizationally, BayZiel is represented at the main location in Munich and with a branch office in Ingolstadt[2].
BayZiel is the central network for innovative teaching in Bavaria, which actively shapes the higher education landscape, promotes sustainability and digitization in teaching and supports Bavarian universities in mastering current and future challenges. The institution combines research, practice and further education, promotes entrepreneurial thinking and thus makes a sustainable contribution to the quality development and future viability of university teaching in Bavaria[1][4][6].
