Beratung für Familien, Erziehende und junge Menschen e.V. (BEJ) is a non-profit association that has been dedicated to promoting the education and psychosocial development of children, adolescents, and young adults since 1952. Originally arising from a citizens' initiative, the association now maintains several counseling centers in Braunschweig and Gifhorn to offer support to those seeking advice in a location close to their home and in an uncomplicated manner.
The BEJ e.V. offers a wide range of counseling services for families, individuals, and professionals. The offer includes educational counseling, youth counseling, and family counseling. The counseling centers provide support with uncertainties in educational matters, problematic social behavior, difficulties in learning and working behavior, psychological problems, physical complaints without organic causes, as well as problems related to separation and divorce.
The working method of the BEJ e.V. is based on voluntariness, confidentiality, and free of charge. The counseling takes place on the basis of an independent decision of those seeking advice and is subject to data protection and confidentiality. Cooperation with other institutions usually only takes place with the express consent of those affected.
The goal of the BEJ e.V. is to help people in difficult life situations to discover and use their own strengths and resources in order to find individual solutions to their problems. Various counseling and therapy methods are used to provide those seeking advice with quick and effective support.
In addition to direct counseling work, the BEJ e.V. is also involved in the area of prevention. The preventive offers include parent evenings, public lecture series, and information talks with other professional groups and institutions. The aim is to inform about developmental topics of children and adolescents, to draw attention to social changes and new demands on families, and to promote cooperation between various actors in the field of child and youth welfare.
The BEJ e.V. is managed by a voluntary board and supported by a team of qualified specialists. Financing is provided by funds from the city of Braunschweig and the district of Gifhorn, as well as through donations.
