The BerufsBildungsWerk Greifswald (BBW) is one of the largest and most modern educational institutions in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region and belongs to Diakoniewerk Greifswald gGmbH[5]. Since its founding in 1990, the institute has developed into a specialized facility for vocational preparation and initial training of young people with disabilities[5].
The central mission of the BBW is "Opportunities through Education"[5]. The company pursues the goal of showing young people with disabilities ways into professional and social life and enabling them to participate independently in the labor market[5]. The focus is on commitment, quality, innovative corporate strategies and labor market-oriented services[5].
The BBW Greifswald offers a comprehensive range of services from early vocational orientation to integration into the world of work[5]. The training programs include over 40 training courses in practical and business-oriented training[6]. These are carried out in our own training workshops, offices and companies as well as in cooperation with regional businesses[6].
The institute is one of the few institutions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that offers vocational, social and medical rehabilitation in an integrated concept[5]. In addition, the BBW has developed specialized framework conditions for people with autistic syndrome and AD(H)S[5]. As a cooperation partner of the Greifswald 3-phase model, it also supports the care and rehabilitation of patients with brain injuries[5].
The BBW has a modern campus with barrier-free facilities[8], which fully corresponds to the idea of inclusion. In addition to vocational training, the quality of living plays an outstanding role[8]. The company offers a graduated living concept with barrier-free and modernly furnished single rooms[8]. Participants train practical and social skills such as teamwork, healthy eating and financial management there[8].
The facility is located in one of the most beautiful and healthiest regions of Germany, directly on the Greifswalder Bodden and near the Baltic Sea[2]. The university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald offers attractive leisure opportunities[2]. The proximity to specialized clinics of the University Hospital and the BDH-Klinik Greifswald enables optimal medical care[2].
The BBW Greifswald shows a strong commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. As part of environmental projects, employees have planted a future forest, creating places that promote diversity, respect and mindfulness[9]. This underlines the company's willingness to actively work for a better future[9].
The BBW cooperates internationally within the framework of the Erasmus+ Program[9]. Trainees from abroad gain practical experience in various training areas, which promotes international exchange and mutual cultural enrichment[9].
The company also operates gastronomic facilities where trainees gain practical experience in the kitchen and bakery areas[9]. These serve as training companies and are also open to the public[10].
The BerufsBildungsWerk Greifswald is therefore not only a training institution, but a holistic rehabilitation and education center that comprehensively prepares people with disabilities for an independent professional life.
