The BEST AöR is the central public law institution for waste disposal and city cleaning in Bottrop. As a 100 percent subsidiary of the City of Bottrop, it has been a reliable partner for citizens, trade, and commerce since 2000.[1][3][4] With around 170 dedicated employees, the company ensures economical, environmentally sound services and actively addresses the challenges of modern recycling and waste management.[1][2][3]

The mission of the BEST AöR is: "From the region - for the region". As a municipal company, it fulfills its public mandate by combining tradition with innovation and making Bottrop a more livable place.[1][2] Core values are transparency, reliability, mutual respect and open interaction. The team speaks plainly, takes responsibility and relies on sustainable technologies.[2] The Management Board with Stefan Kaufmann (Chairman) and Dennis Sweers is supervised by the Administrative Board chaired by Emilio Pintea - staffed exclusively with city council members.[3][4][8]
Sustainability is at the heart of everything: The waste management concept of the BEST AöR, first developed in 1999 and continuously updated, is based on transparent planning and implementation. It integrates environmental protection with economic aspects, promotes recycling and minimizes waste.[9] Measures such as recycling centers and education (e.g. warning against compostable plastic bags in the organic waste bin) contribute to environmental protection.[1][6][9] Initiatives such as Girls' Day (e.g. 2026 in the workshop) make technical professions accessible to young women and strengthen regional talent.[6]
