The LandFrauenverband Württemberg-Baden e.V. is an independent women's association based in Stuttgart, which was founded on April 30, 1947 in Ludwigsburg as the first state association in the western occupation zones.[1][2][4] With around 53,000 members (as of 2019), it represents the political, social and economic interests of women in the rural areas of Northern Württemberg and Northern Baden.[4] As a member of the German Landfrauenverband, it actively promotes networking and empowerment of rural women – open to all, regardless of profession, denomination or party politics.[1][2]
The movement arose from the hardship after the Second World War. As early as 1898, Elisabet Boehm founded the first rural women's association in East Prussia to enable further education for rural women; a national association followed in 1916.[1][4] In the southwest, in 1916, Princess Therese zu Hohenlohe-Waldenburg started the first housewives' association in Öhringen, which was dissolved in 1933.[1][4] After 1945, new life sprouted: On April 20, 1946, the first association in Baden-Württemberg was founded in Alfdorf, initiated by Freifrau Margarete vom Holtz and Marie-Luise Gräfin Leutrum von Ertingen – despite snow and ice, the Countess traveled the country far and wide.[1][2][7] The state was founded in 1947 with Countess Leutrum as the first president and Regina Frankenfeld as managing director; the office moved to Stuttgart in 1950.[1][4] The bee as a symbol has stood for diligent commitment ever since.[3]
According to the first statutes, the association is party-politically neutral, non-denominational and independent. It brings together rural women, promotes them professionally and culturally, and brings their concerns to the public.[2] Core values are impartiality, openness to all rural women and self-help from the grassroots – in contrast to earlier, occupationally restricted associations.[1][2] Today it includes local and district associations that are active from Alfdorf to Ludwischburg.[2][8]
The association is a recognized provider of rural adult education and offers a wide range of programs:
Through networking in over 12 district associations (since 1947), it strengthens women's voices – from farmers to non-farmers.[2][5]
Sustainability is central: Seminars on climate protection, environmental protection and resource-saving agriculture ensure sustainable farming operations.[3][5] The association is committed to intact social structures, suitable working conditions and attractive rural areas – for today's and future generations.[3][5] Anniversaries such as "75 Years – Shaping the Future Together" underline this with exhibitions and publications.[3][9]
For 75 years, the LandFrauenverband has shaped the rural area: Committed, innovative and future-oriented, it bundles forces for strong women and vital rural life. (2487 characters incl. spaces)
