The Geoportal GDI-BMEL is the central geodata infrastructure for the business area of the Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft (BMEL) and is operated by the Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung (BLE). As an information and service platform, the Geoportal connects authorities, research institutions and practical actors from the fields of agriculture, forestry and fisheries. It enables easy access to geodata, metadata and map services, thus promoting the use of geoinformation and remote sensing in agriculture and forestry.
The Geoportal GDI-BMEL represents a central hub for the transfer of geodata to national and European infrastructures. Through the connection to the geodata catalog of the GDI-DE and the implementation of the EU-INSPIRE Directive, geodata is made interoperable and accessible to the public. The platform offers a comprehensive overview of current projects, events and initiatives related to geoinformation and remote sensing and supports agricultural practice and research by providing WMS services and further publications.
The main mission of the Geoportal GDI-BMEL is to promote the digitization and exchange of geodata in the agricultural and forestry sector and to support the implementation of European standards such as INSPIRE and Copernicus. The Fachzentrum für Geoinformation und Fernerkundung of the BLE coordinates the technical and professional implementation of the geodata infrastructure and supports the institutes and authorities of the BMEL business area in solving technical questions and developing innovative projects.
Sustainability and environmental protection are central values of the Geoportal GDI-BMEL. The platform promotes the use of geodata for the sustainable management of agricultural and forest areas and supports the development of evidence-based cultivation recommendations in climate change. By providing remote sensing data and developing Decision-Support-Systems, the Geoportal makes an important contribution to sustainable development and the protection of natural resources.
The Geoportal GDI-BMEL is an important player in the digitization of agriculture and forestry and is committed to the further development and widespread use of geoinformation. Through close cooperation with authorities, research institutions and practical actors, the Geoportal contributes to developing innovative solutions for the challenges of the future and promoting sustainability in agriculture and forestry.
