Bundesinstitut für Sportwissenschaft

The Bundesinstitut für Sportwissenschaft (BISp) is a non-legal federal institution located within the business area of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Construction and Community. Founded on October 10, 1970, in response to the poor performance at the 1968 Olympic Games and in preparation for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the BISp plays a central role in sports science research and development in Germany.

• Research and Coordination: The BISp initiates, promotes, and coordinates research projects in the field of sports, particularly in the area of competitive sports, youth development, and talent identification. It coordinates projects at universities, private research institutes, and the elite sports institutes of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) within the framework of the "Scientific Network System in Competitive Sports" (WVL)[1][3][5].

The main mission of the BISp is to identify research needs, initiate and coordinate research projects, and transfer research results into practice.
