The Bundesinstitut für Sportwissenschaft (BISp) is a non-legal federal institution located within the business area of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Construction and Community. Founded on October 10, 1970, in response to the poor performance at the 1968 Olympic Games and in preparation for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the BISp plays a central role in sports science research and development in Germany.
The main mission of the BISp is to identify research needs, initiate and coordinate research projects, and transfer research results into practice. It aims to promote sports science research and make the results available to target groups in order to support sports policy, science, and sports in Germany[1][3][5].
