The Caritas RheinBerg, officially Caritasverband für den Rheinisch-Bergischen Kreis e.V., is a dedicated social service provider of the Catholic Church and independent welfare organizations. With over 500 full-time employees and around 360 volunteers, it operates more than 30 facilities and projects throughout the district. Its guiding principle „Der Mensch zählt!“ shapes all activities and is based on the message of Jesus: "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40).[1][2][3]
The priority option applies to the poor and weak. The concern is the well-being of people in material, physical, mental and spiritual terms. Assistance is provided regardless of nationality, origin or religious belief - personal encounter is at the center. As a service community, Caritas RheinBerg is characterized by and partnership-based structures. Decisions follow the "Third Way" with the participation of employees. The Christian values of charity are put into practice, in addition to parish work.[1][2][3][4][6]
Caritas RheinBerg offers a wide range of assistance and advice:
In addition, the subsidiary "mitten im leben" GmbH (founded in 2008) operates the CAP-Markt as an inclusion company in Bergisch Gladbach-Paffrath. Here, predominantly severely disabled people work permanently and subject to social security contributions in a food market with delivery service.[4][5]
Although explicit sustainability goals are not described in detail, Caritas RheinBerg promotes long-term social stability through inclusion and social integration. Initiatives such as the CAP-Markt create jobs for disadvantaged groups and support charitable purposes in accordance with the tax code. The organization strengthens regional structures, coordinates assistance and develops innovative projects in specialist areas such as family, addiction support or migration. Transparent structures with the board, department heads and staff units (e.g. fundraising, prevention) ensure effectiveness.[3][5]
Caritas RheinBerg brings charity to life: From supporting vulnerable families to integrating migrants and people with addiction - always with a focus on the individual. In a diverse region, it creates supplementation and coordination for sustainable welfare.[1][2][3]
