The Carl-Gotthard-Langhans-Schule (CGLS) is one of the largest vocational schools in the district of Wolfenbüttel and trains around 1,000 students in practical professions. With approximately 70–80 teachers, supported by nine administrative and service staff and a social worker, the school covers a broad spectrum of 10 vocational fields: Color Technology and Interior Design, Social Pedagogy, Business and Administration, Metal Technology, Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Wood Technology, Personal Care, Home Economics, Nursing, and Nutrition.[1][4]
The CGLS offers 23 training occupations in the dual system, with classes on 2 days in the first year and 1 day in the following years over 3.5 years. In addition, there are that can be flexibly combined – depending on the individual school leaving certificate. Organized into four departments, the school enables the acquisition of in technical secondary schools for business, technology, nutrition/home economics or health and social affairs (focus on social pedagogy).[1][5]
Particularly innovative is the Berufsfachschule dual Wirtschaft, a one-year school type that replaces earlier programs such as the Höhere Handelsschule. It combines sound commercial basic education with subjects such as German, English, Mathematics and Politics. In the first half of the year, there is joint instruction plus an internship; in the second, the strand divides: High-achieving students (grade point average ≥ 3.0) qualify for the Fachoberschule with 2 school days and 3 internship days per week. A strong counseling and coaching system ensures individual support.[2]
For Hauptschule graduates, one-year vocational schools start in areas such as automotive technology, metal technology, home economics, electrical engineering, wood technology or business/retail – as the first full-time school year of training that can be credited. With a good degree (grade point average ≥ 3.0), the Realschulabschluss follows. The school helps with career choices: "Du hast... Du kannst... Du willst... Du brauchst..." – tools show suitable paths.[5][7]
Vocational qualification is at the center: All forms are coordinated, practice-oriented and application-related. The CGLS promotes the transition to training, supports the search for internships or companies and prepares for university entrance. International school partnerships, cooperation with companies and chambers, and projects such as history and memorial plaques strengthen social skills.[1][3][6][8]
Since 1994, the Förderverein der Freunde und Förderer has been supporting the school on a voluntary and non-profit basis. It promotes cultural, intellectual, sporting and social concerns through:
While explicit sustainability goals are not the focus, the CGLS reflects future-oriented education: Digital timetables, practical methods and lifelong learning paths promote sustainable qualifications in high-growth industries such as technology and care. Projects on history and remembrance (e.g. memorial plaque for World War I victims) convey values such as responsibility and respect.[8]
The CGLS is the ideal partner for young people who want to start their careers quickly, safely and competently. With active events, counseling teams and partnerships, it creates bridges between school, business and society – for a strong region.[1][3]
