CVUA-MEL

The CVUA-MEL is an institution under public law based in Münster, responsible for the districts and independent cities of the Münster government district. With about 240 employees and 9 trainees, it is an important partner in the field of consumer protection and animal health.

• Food and Feed Testing: The CVUA-MEL conducts comprehensive examinations of plant and animal foods as well as feed to ensure that they meet legal requirements.
• Consumer Goods and Products of the Wine Industry: In addition to food, consumer goods such as household dishes and food packaging, as well as products from the wine industry, are also tested.
• Animal Health and Animal Welfare: Another focus is on the early detection of animal diseases and the determination of causes of illness or death in livestock and pets.
• Toy Testing: In Münster, the state-wide focus for toy testing is located to ensure the safety of toys for children.

The main mission of the CVUA-MEL is to maintain animal health and protect consumers from deception, misleading information, and health hazards. This is achieved through comprehensive examinations and analyses that ensure that food and other products meet legal requirements.

The CVUA-MEL is actively committed to environmental protection by optimizing the energy efficiency of its laboratories. This includes the use of efficient refrigeration machines equipped with screw and scroll compressors to reduce CO2 emissions. Additionally, the energy supply is ensured by a low-voltage main distribution (NSHV) that meets the high demands of a modern testing laboratory.

The CVUA-MEL offers a solid training program as a biological laboratory technician, conducted in a dual system. The training includes both practical and theoretical aspects and prepares trainees for a wide range of procedures for testing animal food and tissues. Trainees learn in various departments, such as sample reception and in the culture medium laboratory, and receive comprehensive support from experienced colleagues.
