Der Deutsche Olympische Sportbund (DOSB) is the umbrella organization of German sports and unites more than 27 million memberships in almost 90,000 sports clubs and 101 member organizations. Founded on May 20, 2006, through the merger of the German Sports Federation and the National Olympic Committee for Germany, the DOSB stands for performance, health, joy of life, and value transmission[5].
The main mission of the DOSB is to promote and support sports in Germany by representing the interests of its member organizations to governmental and societal institutions. The DOSB is committed to ensuring that people are active in a healthy and environmentally friendly environment. The values of the DOSB include promoting modern, humane top-level sports, fighting against doping and other manipulations, as well as conveying ethical values[4][5].
The DOSB is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main and has additional offices in Berlin and Brussels. The board and the presidency of the DOSB are responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the association. The current president of the DOSB is Thomas Weikert, and the patron is the German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier[5].
The DOSB is a central figure in German sports and continuously works to promote, support, and develop sports in all its facets to positively influence society through sporting activities.
