The Deutsch-französisches Büro für die Energiewende (DFBEW) is a central information and networking platform that has been promoting the exchange and collaboration between German and French actors in the energy transition since 2006. Founded by the governments of Germany and France, the DFBEW has developed into an important multiplier and partner for the implementation of the energy transition.
The main mission of the DFBEW is to build bridges between the actors of the energy transition in both countries and to intensify the exchange of information and experiences. This includes networking representatives from authorities, business, science, and civil society, as well as promoting the exchange of best practices and providing relevant information on legal, technical, and economic aspects of the energy transition.
The DFBEW focuses on the social, ecological, and economic aspects of the energy transition. In recent years, it has expanded its areas of work to include topics such as the decarbonization of industry, hydrogen, mobility, and the regional heat transition. Through close collaboration with ministries, companies, industry associations, research institutions, and civil society, the DFBEW contributes to supply security and sustainable development in both countries[1][3][4].
The DFBEW has offices in Berlin and Paris, which are directly located in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Ministry for Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty (MEFSIN), respectively. This enables close exchange with the responsible authorities. The work of the DFBEW is financed half from public funds from Germany and France and half from membership fees. Among the over 250 members are small, medium-sized, and large companies, research institutions, and representatives of civil society[1][3][4].
The steering committee of the DFBEW consists of 21 representatives from ministries, universities, research institutions, companies, and organizations and meets for three years. This structure ensures comprehensive and representative governance of the activities of the DFBEW[1][4].
The Deutsch-französisches Büro für die Energiewende is thus a central actor in the field of energy transition, significantly contributing to sustainable development and supply security in Germany and France through its comprehensive services and networking functions.
