The Deutscher Kinderschutzbund Landesverband Berlin e. V. has been committed as an engaged lobby for children in Berlin for the rights of children and adolescents since 1956. The focus is on non-violent upbringing, participation and protection from discrimination and violence.[2][5]
The offer mainly includes advice, help and prevention: Families, parents, children and adolescents receive support in conflicts, crises and questions about the welfare of children. In addition, there is specialist advice for professional staff, for example on assessing possible child endangerment, planning intervention steps and supervision.[1][3][4]
Another focus is on strengthening children's rights and promoting education, participation and equal opportunities. The association informs, accompanies and qualifies people who care about children, and offers, among other things, training courses, parents' evenings and workshops on topics such as children's rights, non-violent education, childhood sexuality and prevention of sexualized violence.[2][4]
In its Berlin children's projects, the association particularly supports disadvantaged children in experiencing cultural participation and making new experiences. In this way, the Kinderschutzbund combines concrete help in everyday life with long-term promotion of development, self-determination and social participation.[2]
The regional association also plays a clear role in society and politics: it interferes in legislation, planning and public debates when it comes to the protection and rights of children.[5] In current statements, the association calls for, among other things, better protection for homeless minors and the consistent implementation of child protection concepts in accommodation in order to better protect vulnerable children.[8][9]
The Kinderschutzbund Berlin thus stands for child-centered, preventive and partisan work: It protects, advises, strengthens and represents the interests of children and adolescents in Berlin with the aim that all children can grow up safely, healthily and with good development opportunities.[2][5]
