The Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e.V. is a unique community of around 3,500 committed individuals, companies, and organizations from business, science, and civil society. Founded in 1920, the Stifterverband embodies the shared responsibility of German companies for a sustainable and livable society.
The main mission of the Stifterverband is to rethink and shape education and science in order to sustainably strengthen the innovative capacity of society. The focus is on the core topics Education, Science, and Innovation. The Stifterverband advocates for equitable education, excellent universities, and internationally competitive research institutions[2][4].
The Stifterverband is a registered association with an extensive network that includes DAX corporations, medium-sized companies, business associations, founders, and engaged private individuals. Its most important body is the general assembly, which elects the board and the advisory board. The board consists of the chairpersons of almost all DAX companies as well as the presidents of major business associations and scientific organizations[3].
The Stifterverband is a strong supporter of the foundation sector in Germany and supports a strong and vibrant civil society. Through the German Foundation Center, it manages over 600 foundations with a total asset of 2.6 billion euros, from which 120 million euros flow into charitable purposes each year[4].
The Stifterverband is a sought-after partner of politics, business, and science. It conducts studies and analyses, such as the Higher Education Barometer or the Founding Radar, and supports political decision-making processes with scientifically based data and facts. As an advisory body to the federal government, the Stifterverband leads the Expert Commission on Research and Innovation (EFI) and offers consulting support and training opportunities for universities and public institutions with "Stifterverband Change"[5].
