The Diakoniewerk Weltersbach is a diaconal center of the Free Evangelical Churches in the state association NRW e.V., which has grown historically since 1926 and offers a holistic living concept for seniors.[3][7] Six nursing homes, 180 bungalows for barrier-free living, and various facilities such as a village café, a church, a Bible garden, and a thrift boutique have been built on a spacious site in Leichlingen - all embedded in well-kept outdoor facilities with free parking.[1][4][7]
Living with Service is the focus: residents conclude a rental agreement including a service agreement, which guarantees barrier-free living in a safe, quiet environment. Permanent caregivers take care of individual concerns and promote independence.[1] This is complemented by in the nursing homes and for temporary support, which offers relief in everyday life and health.[6] More than 300 employees in various areas ensure professional care.[7]
The center thrives on its quality of life: A seminar house accommodates external guests, while the village café is regularly open and creates inviting meeting places.[4][7] The Bibelgarten (Bible Garden) with 24 beds on 1,700 m², created between 2012 and 2016, invites you to explore biblical plants free of charge every day - guided tours for groups are possible.[4]
The main mission is: "Here you are seen." People should enjoy living here, treat each other with respect and be supported in everyday life.[3] The mission statement emphasizes: "We respect and protect the privacy of the individual. At the same time, we enable participation in community life."[1] Values such as respect, community and diaconal care shape the daily interaction, grown from strong church roots.[3][7]
Senior-friendly events bring variety, culture and sociability: From concerts to leisure activities to festive events such as New Year's Eve celebrations - planned monthly, e.g. in October 2025 with various dates.[5] These initiatives strengthen the sense of community and enrich everyday life.[3][5]
Although explicit sustainability goals are not listed in detail, a sustainable approach is reflected in the long-term site design: The Bible Garden promotes ecological awareness through natural beds, and the barrier-free, low-maintenance infrastructure supports long-lasting living.[4] The Diakoniewerk is committed to the professional development of its employees and remains a stable anchor for generations.[7]
With around 400 residents and visitors, Weltersbach is more than just a facility - it is a lively village that enables dignity, support and joy in old age. Ideal for anyone looking for a self-determined life in a protected community.[1][3]
