DIE BRÜCKE Lübeck und Ostholstein gGmbH is a non-profit organization that has been offering a wide range of therapeutic and psychosocial support for people with mental illnesses in Lübeck and the surrounding area since 1980.[5][2][8] Founded as a further development of an association launched in 1973 by citizens of Lübeck, it was a pioneer for community-based support in Schleswig-Holstein - away from large institutions towards humane alternatives in everyday life.[4]
The company operates a dense specialist network that helps those affected to live independently and self-determinedly despite mental health problems. These include:
These services cover Lübeck, Ostholstein (e.g. Eutin, Bad Schwartau, Neustadt, Oldenburg, Heiligenhafen) and the surrounding area, with a focus on life and work problems caused by mental illness.[5][9]
According to the statutes, the main mission includes the promotion of charitable purposes, welfare, youth and elderly care, civic engagement, assistance for people with disabilities, as well as education, general and vocational training - exclusively non-profit and tax-privileged.[2] As a member of the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband, DIE BRÜCKE uses any surpluses generated purely for these goals.[2]
Core values shape daily actions: transparency creates trust, diversity is lived through the Charta der Vielfalt, and a trusting corporate culture is at the center.[2][6][7] The leadership principles with nine principles emphasize overall responsibility, professional reflection and the connection between leadership and practice - for high performance and functionality.[6]
Under Managing Director Frank Nüsse (solely authorized to represent the company since 2014, with the company since 2000), a strong team leads: Stefanie Bender (Head of Human Resources and Authorized Officer since 2013/2019), Olga Simon (Commercial Director/Authorized Officer), Dr. med. Antje Burfeind (Medical Director), Catharina Baden (Head of Integration Assistance) and Thomas Witt (Head of Ostholstein).[1]
DIE BRÜCKE is the only company in Schleswig-Holstein to have received multiple Great Place to Work® awards (2014, 2017, 2020, 2024) - among the top employers in the healthcare and social sector in Germany.[5][7] This underlines an employee-friendly culture that sees employees as a key resource to enable participation for those affected.[7]
Sustainability goals are incorporated into the non-profit orientation: surpluses are used exclusively for purposes such as psychosocial integration and civic engagement. The Charta der Vielfalt promotes inclusion internally and externally. As an employer for mental health, DIE BRÜCKE sets an example - active, vibrant and close to people.[2][4][7]
DIE BRÜCKE combines tradition with modernity: from civic engagement to a professional network that helps thousands to build bridges into society. (approx. 2480 characters)
