The Senatorin für Inneres und Sport is the highest state authority and the Ministry of the Interior of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen [6][7]. As a senatorial office, the authority is responsible for central tasks of domestic policy and makes a significant contribution to the security, cohesion and development of the state of Bremen [2][3].
The senatorial authority is responsible for a comprehensive range of tasks that go far beyond classic security issues. Under the leadership of Senator for the Interior and Sport Dr. Eva Högl, the following core areas are responsible [2]:
The authority is divided into a management staff and four departments [1]:
The Management Staff includes the Senator's Office and the press and public relations department and is responsible for central political coordination, regional and supra-regional committee work as well as petition processing and citizen advice [1].
The Central Department (Department 1) is responsible for cross-sectional tasks relating to resource management, personnel, budget, real estate and IT coordination [1].
Other departments deal with legal regulations in the areas of foreigners, asylum and civil status matters as well as with the technical supervision of responsible municipal authorities [1].
The primary goal of the senatorial authority is the security of the citizens of the state of Bremen [2]. At the same time, the authority pursues the goal of preserving and further developing Bremen and Bremerhaven as cosmopolitan and vibrant cities. Under the leadership of Dr. Eva Högl, an experienced lawyer with extensive expertise in the areas of internal security, law and sport, targeted work is being carried out to strengthen social cohesion [2].
In the area of sport, the Senator consciously focuses on projects that meet high standards [2]. When selecting projects, the focus was on a balanced mix of club projects, municipal sports facilities and swimming pools. The projects are selected based on their convincing sporting expertise and their compliance with high standards in climate protection, accessibility and feasibility [2].
The authority has appointed a Citizen Representative to give citizens direct access to politically responsible persons. These representatives mediate contacts to specific responsible organizational units and accept both criticism and praise [5]. This promotes transparency and citizen participation in the administration.
The senatorial authority presents itself as a modern, citizen-oriented state authority that combines security and cohesion with progressive values such as climate protection and accessibility.
