Die.Senioren.WGs is an established company in the health and social services sector, specializing in innovative forms of housing for the elderly.[1][2] The company currently operates thirteen locations in western Berlin and offers a modern alternative to traditional nursing homes by enabling older people to live a self-determined, dignified, and communal life.[1]
Die.Senioren.WGs offers two main concepts for life in old age:
Hygge-WGs: This concept is aimed at older people who appreciate a balance between individuality and community.[3] Residents rent their own room for sole use and share generously designed common rooms with other residents.[3] The term "Hygge" - of Norwegian origin and rooted in Danish culture - stands for well-being, warmth and cosiness.[3] The concept enables older people to make life richer and more cheerful by promoting joint activities with tolerant and appreciative encounters, while private rooms offer perfect retreats.[3]
Pflege-WGs: For seniors in need of care, the company offers specialized shared apartments in which residents become tenants in a shared apartment.[8] Nursing staff exclusively provide treatment care in fixed, small groups of residents.[7]
The company pursues a clear philosophy: People are our passion.[1] The rooms of the shared apartments were designed and furnished together with the residents with great attention to detail to ensure that all residents feel comfortable in their new home.[1]
The management consists of two partners with complementary skills: Frau Anett HĂĽssen is responsible for the economic affairs and the strategic further development of the company, while Frau Katarzyna Orlik, with many years of experience in nursing, sets professional standards and is dedicated to the topic of care with passion.[1] The company acts hands-on and responsibly, empathetically and appreciatively.[8]
Die.Senioren.WGs was awarded the title of "Company of the Future" by the German Innovation Institute in 2025.[1] This recognition confirms the company's innovative approach and its commitment to supporting older people in a dignified and communal way.
Die.Senioren.WGs contributes to a growing trend: senior shared apartments are becoming increasingly attractive as a form of housing, as they enable sociable, senior-friendly and self-determined living and are economically sensible.[5] The company thus offers a real alternative to full inpatient care in traditional nursing homes and shows how older people can live together with other people in a private atmosphere and lead a self-determined life.[9]
