The Ernst Freiberger-Stiftung, founded in 1994 by entrepreneur Ernst Freiberger from Amerang in Chiemgau in Berlin, is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit foundation based in Amerang. Since its establishment, it has been dedicated to the common good and pursues a wide range of social, cultural and societal initiatives under the motto "Zukunft verpflichtet" [1][2][8].
Founded at the end of 1994, the foundation quickly established itself through substantive design and the establishment of advisory boards of trustees. In 1999, it expanded its statutes to include the Förderung der Altenhilfe and the reintegration of older people into an active life. In 2017, it moved its headquarters from Berlin to Amerang and has since been under the legal supervision of the government of Upper Bavaria. At the end of 2020, the new statutes approved the support of as a further focus [1]. Ernst Freiberger heads the foundation as chairman, supported by a managing director (currently Anselm Bilgri), a spokesperson and a board of trustees [1][5].
The foundation focuses on Erinnerungskultur, Integration Älterer, wissenschaftliche Debatten and Hilfe für Betroffene chronischer Erkrankungen.
Straße der Erinnerung (Berlin-Spreebogen, Moabit): A high-profile memorial ensemble with busts of important 20th century figures such as Georg Elser, Thomas Mann, Albert Einstein, Käthe Kollwitz, Konrad Zuse, Ludwig Erhard and Helmut Kohl. Created by artists such as Heinrich Drake and Bernhard Heiliger, it honors "heroes without swords" and promotes social reflection [2][5].
Windschatten Berlin: Center for Young Carer - children and young people who care for serious or chronic illnesses in the family. It offers free services such as counseling, groups, time-outs, "time out" scholarships and direct assistance (e.g. sports memberships, educational opportunities). Open to all families regardless of origin, orientation or identity, with a focus on inclusion and family counseling. A team of social workers runs the center in Moabit [6][7].
EFA Mobile Zeiten (Amerang): Automobile museum on the history, present and future of mobility, which combines cultural education [5].
Wissenschaftliche Arbeit: Publisher of a series of publications on socio-political issues; the Ameranger Disput discusses future topics with experts [2].
In addition, the foundation supports social and cultural projects in the home region as well as families with chronically ill people [4][5].
The Hauptmission is to strengthen social capacity through remembrance, integration and support of vulnerable groups. Values such as Werteorientierung, Verantwortung, Freiheit and Wohlstand für alle (in the sense of Ludwig Erhard) shape the actions, inspired by the founding family business [8]. Sustainability goals include long-term social resilience: promoting reintegration, relief for caregivers and inclusion to ensure sustainability. Projects such as Windschatten address pressing issues such as Familiäre Pflegebelastung and diversity, with a focus on prevention and empowerment [1][6][7]. The foundation with 10-19 employees remains agile and committed [4].
Through a variety of initiatives, the Ernst Freiberger-Stiftung creates tangible impulses for a community based on solidarity - from historical monuments to everyday support for those affected [2][5].
