About Essener Sportbund e.V.

The Essener Sportbund e.V. (ESPO) is the umbrella organization of non-profit sports clubs in Essen and represents their interests to politics and administration. As a source of inspiration and support, the ESPO accompanies its members in social, legal, sports policy and sports-related changes.

The ESPO offers a wide range of sports activities and projects for all age groups and interests. These include children's sports programs, running groups, sports badges, qualification measures and sports and health centers. The projects include "BEWEGT und GESUND Aufwachsen", "OutdoorFit", "SchwimmFit", "Sport im Park" and "Gemeinsam Bewegen!", which aim to promote the health and well-being of the Essen population. A particular concern is the "Essener Initiative gegen sexualisierte Gewalt im Sport", which is committed to the protection of children and young people.

The ESPO is committed to promoting voluntary work in sports and offers a platform for finding volunteer opportunities. It supports integration through sport and promotes the participation of people with a migration background.

The Essener Sportbund e.V. has adopted a position paper for the future of sport in Essen, which addresses central topics and challenges and has been submitted to the political parties and factions in the Essen City Council.

The ESPO operates and supports several sports and health centers in Essen, which offer a wide range of sports activities for young and old. These include fitness, health, prevention and rehabilitation sports programs as well as equipment training.

The Essener Sportbund e.V. attaches great importance to the protection of children and young people and has developed a child protection concept and qualified its employees accordingly.
