Über Evangelische Freiwilligendienste gGmbH
editDie Evangelische Freiwilligendienste gGmbH, based in Hannover, is the federal office for voluntary services under Protestant sponsorship. As a non-profit GmbH of Diakonie Deutschland – Evangelischer Bundesverband and Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Evangelischen Jugend in Deutschland e.V. (aej), it offers a variety of opportunities for young people to get involved socially at home and abroad.
A central program is the Diakonische Jahr im Ausland (DJiA), a social education and orientation year that offers young people from the age of 18 the opportunity to work in diaconal and social institutions worldwide for 9-12 months. The DJiA is possible in numerous countries in Europe and overseas, including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, France, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, South Africa, Czech Republic, USA and Vietnam.
The DJiA offers opportunities for deployment in various fields, such as working with children and young people, senior citizens, people with disabilities, in church congregations and social projects. The volunteers receive pocket money, accommodation, meals and health, accident and liability insurance. Pedagogical support and seminars to prepare, implement and evaluate the voluntary service are also an integral part of the program.
A particular focus is on development policy voluntary service, which is offered in countries such as Argentina, Bolivia and South Africa. The aim is to sensitize volunteers to global contexts and issues of social, economic and ecological justice and to motivate them to continue their involvement even after the voluntary service. The places of assignment work on topics that are formulated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as poverty reduction, health and education.
Die Evangelische Freiwilligendienste gGmbH attaches great importance to quality assurance and has been carrying the quifd quality seal since 2007. It is part of various networks and initiatives, such as the Freiwilligen Internationalen Jahr (FIJ), and works closely with sponsors such as the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), the Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend (BMFSFJ) and the Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD).
