FELIX Pflegeteam gGmbH is an outpatient, non-profit specialized care service in Berlin that has been dedicated to the professional care of chronically ill people since 1998. Founded from the merger of HIV gGmbH with a specialized care station in 2005, the company focuses on people with HIV/AIDS, mental illnesses, addiction problems and incurable diseases.[1][3][5]
The team offers comprehensive outpatient care directly in the living spaces of those affected, including medical care, basic care and domestic support. Special focuses are on outpatient psychiatric care (APP) as well as palliative care and hospice care. The services are supplemented by in Berlin-Wedding and Kreuzberg. The premise "outpatient before inpatient" aims to avoid or minimize hospital stays in order to maintain the independence of the patients.[3][6]
FELIX works closely with partners such as ZIK gGmbH and ZeitRaum and, if necessary, arranges further assistance, such as substitution treatments for drug users. Every care is individual: goals, content and limits are flexibly coordinated with patients, relatives and payers.[3][2]
The main mission is to promote quality of life, well-being and independence - regardless of origin, belief, gender, sexual orientation or lifestyle. Every person receives attention, stability and humanity, even in difficult life situations such as homelessness or need for care. Trust, personal responsibility, openness and clear communication form the core values of an inclusive culture.[3][8][9]
As a charitable gGmbH according to the tax code, FELIX supports public health care through specialized expertise. In 2022, the team employed an average of 99 employees (74 full-time equivalents), with personnel expenses of over 3.5 million euros.[4]
FELIX is part of the Verbund Lebensfarben Berlin, a network of nine non-profit companies with around 900 employees. This corporate group, which has existed since 2002, develops innovative care concepts for disadvantaged people with mental illnesses, addiction, disabilities or chronic diseases. Financing is primarily provided by services from health insurance companies (SGB V), long-term care insurance funds (SGB XI) and social service providers (SGB XII).[2][4]
Although explicit sustainability initiatives are not described in detail, FELIX makes a sustainable contribution to the inclusion of vulnerable groups through its social economic orientation. The focus on prevention, independence and resource-saving outpatient care minimizes inpatient costs and strengthens public care in the long term. New concepts are continuously evaluated in order to meet needs in line with requirements.[2][3]
FELIX Pflegeteam embodies commitment to the invisible heroes of society: it creates stability in crises and enables a self-determined life. With over 25 years of experience, it remains an indispensable pillar of the Berlin social landscape.[1][5]
