The FeM Mädchen*haus Frankfurt, founded in 1986 as Feministische Mädchenarbeit e.V., is a non-profit, recognized institution of independent youth welfare and a member of the German Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband. For almost four decades, FeM has been committed in a biased way to girls and young women who are affected by psychological, physical, or sexualized violence. The organization is aimed at young people aged 12 to 25 years and places their individual needs at the center of all efforts[1][2][7].
FeM's main mission is: "We are committed to every single girl*, every individual young woman* and place their specific needs at the center of our efforts."[1] With a , FeM supports those affected on their way to . Values such as anonymity, low-threshold access, and unbureaucratic help are in the foreground. FeM advises not only the young people, but also relatives, teachers* and professionals, in order to create a holistic network of protection and prevention[1][2][3].
FeM unites a broad spectrum of protection and development offers under one roof:
These flexible structures enable tailor-made support, from immediate crisis intervention to long-term processing of experiences of violence[1][2].
FeM does not pursue explicit ecological sustainability goals, but is strongly committed to social sustainability. The organization is expanding initiatives such as the "Schutzengelkreis" to promote social awareness and secure donations for long-term protection. Political work in working groups (e.g. LAG against sexualized violence) and regular training courses contribute to prevention. As part of regional networks such as the 2-Regionen-Netzwerk, FeM operates supra-regionally and establishes standards in youth welfare[1][2][3].
FeM thrives on a dedicated team that works independently and is continuously trained. Patron Nele Neuhaus underlines the urgency: "Girls are suffering from domestic violence everywhere in Germany. Don't look away."[1] With projects like VAIA! and the MädchenTreff, FeM creates spaces in which young women learn to live self-determined lives - a milestone for empowerment and social change[2][3][5].
