Flohkiste e.V. is a parent initiative in the heart of Cologne that is dedicated to the loving and individual care of children aged 0 to 3 years. As a non-profit association supported by the parents of the children in care, Flohkiste places great emphasis on active parental involvement and a strong sense of community.
The daycare center offers care for 25 hours per week in a morning and an afternoon group, each with 10 children. The focus is on the individuality of each child. The experienced and qualified educators accompany the children on their unique developmental path, promote their skills and give them the courage and security to try things out and expand their boundaries.
Flohkiste e.V. sees itself as a family-complementing institution where children can feel protected and comfortable. A structured daily routine with recurring rituals offers the children orientation and reliability. Shared meals, songs and games are just as much a part of the daily routine as free play phases in which the children can develop their creativity and test their social skills.
The parent initiative attaches great importance to open and transparent communication with the parents. Regular development discussions and parent evenings promote exchange and cooperation. The parents are actively involved in shaping the day-to-day life of the Kita and take on various tasks in the association.
Flohkiste e.V. is based on the democratic basic idea and conveys to the children that everyone is an important part of the group and is heard. A respectful interaction with each other and the environment is a central concern. The facility offers children the time and space to try things out, live out their imagination and develop their independence.
Flohkiste e.V. is a publicly recognized provider of free youth welfare and a member of the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband. The warm meals are freshly prepared and delivered by an external cook, with attention paid to a healthy, balanced and child-friendly diet. Only organic products are used for breakfast and dinner.
Flohkiste e.V. is committed to inclusion within the scope of its possibilities. The monthly contributions are paid directly to the city of Köln based on the income of the parents. The missing funds are covered by the monthly membership fee, which ensures that children, carers and parents feel comfortable in the Flohkiste.
