The Franziskus Gesundheitsakademie Münster is a central educational institution for healthcare professions in Münster and the surrounding region.[6] It was founded in 2021 and is supported as a competence center by five hospitals of the St. Franziskus-Stiftung: the St. Franziskus-Hospital in Münster, the Herz-Jesu-Krankenhaus in Hiltrup, the Marienhospital in Lüdinghausen, the Maria-Josef-Hospital in Greven and the St. Rochus-Hospital in Telgte.[4][6]
The academy pursues the goal of bundling competencies with regard to current and future requirements in the healthcare professions.[6] With its training programs, it prepares specialists excellently for the demanding professional everyday life in the healthcare sector. The Christian value base of the Franziskus-Stiftung – characterized by Franciscan roots – forms the foundation to accept all requirements with professionalism, charity and enthusiasm.[3]
Currently, around 420 trainees are continuously completing their training at the academy.[6] The offer includes the following areas:
Generalistische Pflegeausbildung – With this modern, flexible training, specialists can work in all areas of care. The graduates also have the opportunity to continue their education at the academy, for example as a practical instructor.[6] In 2022, a total of 360 places were available.[4]
Diätassistenz – A three-year training program in which 75 students were trained.[4]
Operationstechnische Assistenz – A newer branch of training that expands the offer.[4]
Pflegefachassistenz – An additional segment of the offer for shortened training paths.[6]
Anpassungslehrgänge – Adjustment courses have been developed specifically for nurses of foreign origin since 2019 in order to qualify international specialists in Germany.[10]
The academy represents an important educational institution that actively contributes to personnel development in the healthcare sector. Since 2019, the academy has been able to increase the number of trainees by more than 25 percent.[4] The lessons take place at two locations: in Münster and in Hiltrup, which ensures broad regional accessibility.[6]
The pedagogical management is in the hands of Ruth Adrian, who has many years of experience as a school principal.[6] The management is headed by Annika Wolter.[2] As an institution of the St. Franziskus-Stiftung, the academy is part of one of the largest denominational hospital groups in Germany, which operates a total of 15 hospitals and nine facilities for the disabled and seniors.[3]
The Franziskus Gesundheitsakademie Münster thus makes a significant contribution to the professionalization and development of specialists in the healthcare sector and qualifies future generations of healthcare professionals in a modern, Christian environment.
