The GAFÖG Arbeitsförderungsgesellschaft mbH is a non-profit GmbH that has been active in Gelsenkirchen since its founding in November 1992. As a pioneer in Public-Private-Partnership, it is supported by the cities of Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck and Bottrop, as well as regional companies such as Borgmann GmbH, Hermann Liesenklas GmbH & Co. KG, HHK GmbH, IBK Wiesehahn GmbH, MC-Bauchemie Müller GmbH & Co., Pilkington Deutschland AG, Storck Baugesellschaft mbH and Waffelfabrik Oexmann GmbH & Co. KG. This unique cooperation combines municipal and private forces to optimally serve the First Labor Market – i.e. the needs of craft businesses and industrial companies.[1][2]
GAFÖG offers a broad portfolio of labor market services focused on qualification, employment, socio-educational support and placement of job seekers. The core offerings include:
The offer is professionally diverse, target group-specific and continuously expanded – from young people to older people to people with social or health challenges.[7] GAFÖG is firmly anchored in the Emscher-Lippe economic area and uses regional networks for tailor-made solutions.[4]
The Mission of GAFÖG is clear: We bring people and work together. It not only provides jobs, but also technical and social skills as well as career prospects. Central Values are customer orientation, innovation, networking, equal opportunities for all – regardless of age, origin, gender, nationality, abilities, religion or sexual orientation – as well as the promotion of family and career and education for sustainable development.[3]
Under Managing Director Folker Gebel and with an advisory board that includes social partners such as Arbeitgeberverbände Emscher-Lippe, Deutschen Gewerkschaftsbund, Evangelische Kirche, Institut Arbeit und Technik, IntUV, Kreishandwerkerschaft and cities, a strong ecosystem for sustainable labor market policy is created.[1]
GAFÖG acts according to clear principles of action:
Sustainability is an integral part: GAFÖG promotes education for sustainable development, motivates responsibility for the social and ecological environment. Projects such as the GAFÖG-Tafelgarten in Bochum (opened 2023) combine work integration with regional food production and environmental protection. The modernization of the digital infrastructure (supported by Sparkasse Gelsenkirchen, 2023) strengthens efficient, forward-looking processes.[2] These initiatives underscore the ambition to make labor market measures ecologically and socially compatible.[3]
With over 30 years of expertise, GAFÖG has established itself as a reliable partner that takes innovative approaches to combat unemployment and create prospects. In the Ruhr area, it builds bridges – for individuals, companies and the region.[2][4]
