The Lichtburg-Stiftung is a non-profit, legally capable public foundation under civil law. Its purpose is to promote culture and science, including understanding between cultures and religions, as well as German-Jewish relations. The foundation also supports needy people from cultural and scientific fields in accordance with tax regulations.
The foundation realizes its purpose in particular through the awarding of grants, prizes and scholarships, the implementation of exhibitions, readings and performances, as well as the publication of printed materials. It can also support other tax-privileged corporations, institutions and foundations or a suitable public legal entity financially or materially if these bodies promote measures in the sense of the foundation's purpose.
A significant project of the Lichtburg-Stiftung is the "Mikrokosmos Gartenstadt Atlantic". This ambitious pilot project aims to create a vibrant and integrated environment for the approximately 1,200 tenants of the Gartenstadt. By linking art, culture, educational institutions, commerce and well-known companies, the foundation promotes integration and social cohesion in the Kiez. The Mikrokosmos combines high culture with Kiez culture and, through the linking of culture with social as well as material and immaterial services, effects integration. It reaches people directly and radiates into neighboring quarters.
The foundation attaches importance to promoting urban life, urban communication and living space in the middle of the city with commercial facilities, entertainment and leisure activities in the immediate vicinity. The goal is a Kiez whose residents, despite different origins, religion or income and education, live in peaceful coexistence or even cooperation. Children who, for whatever reason, do not have access to cultural or other educational institutions should be given the opportunity to find them in the immediate vicinity.
The Lichtburg-Stiftung pursues exclusively non-profit and charitable purposes and acts selflessly. It does not pursue any own economic goals and does not favor any persons through expenses unrelated to the foundation or disproportionately high grants.
