Gematik GmbH, founded on January 11, 2005, is a central player in the digitalization of the German healthcare system. As a subsidiary of the leading organizations in the healthcare sector and with the Federal Ministry of Health as the main shareholder, Gematik is responsible for the development, operation, and further development of the telematics infrastructure (TI) in Germany.
The main mission of Gematik is to drive the digitalization of the German healthcare system and optimize healthcare for 70 million people. This is achieved by creating a valued telematics infrastructure that focuses on interoperability, compatibility, and security. Gematik works pragmatically, solution-oriented, and passionately towards realizing these goals[1][3][5].
Gematik GmbH is led by a management team consisting of Dr. Florian Fuhrmann, Brenya Adjei, and Dr. Florian Hartge, who have held their roles since September 2024. The Federal Ministry of Health holds 51% of the shareholder shares, while the GKV-Spitzenverband holds 22.05% and finances 93% of Gematik's work. Other shareholders include the leading organizations of service providers and the Association of Private Health Insurance[1][3][4].
Gematik adheres to the principles of good corporate governance and active participation management in the federal sector, as outlined in the Public Corporate Governance Code (PCGK). This includes effective collaboration between management and the supervisory board, transparency in reporting, and appropriate risk and compliance management[4].
