The Gemeindliche Siedlungs-Gesellschaft Neuwied mbH (GSG) has been one of the oldest municipal construction companies in Germany since its foundation on January 26, 1926. With over 98 years of experience, it has developed from combating the housing shortage after the World Wars to a versatile player in regional urban development.[1][2][3]
The main mission of the GSG is to provide secure and socially responsible housing for broad sections of the population. As a non-profit organization, it prioritizes affordable housing for all, combined with a high quality of life. Values such as sustainability, the common good and regional roots shape its actions - from reconstruction aid after wars and floods to modern urban development strategies.[1][8]
Under the leadership of Managing Director David Meurer (since 2020) and an experienced supervisory board, the GSG works closely with the city of Neuwied.[2][5][6]
Sustainability is the focus: The GSG compensates for its CO₂ emissions through reforestation campaigns, such as the purchase of 3500 seedlings in the Heimbach-Weiser/Gladbacher forest, to compensate for drought and bark beetle damage.[7] It is also planning its largest project in the company's history in the southeastern inner city, which includes energy-efficient renovations and new buildings.[7] These initiatives underscore the commitment to climate protection and long-lasting urban structures.[7]
The GSG celebrates successes such as the second state victory in a row of its employee Johannes Söhn as the best real estate specialist in Rhineland-Palatinate - proof of high professional competence.[3] With innovative projects, an informative blog and job offers, the GSG remains dynamic and future-oriented. It makes a significant contribution to the region's quality of life and is continuously expanding its portfolio.[3]
The GSG embodies stable municipal housing policy: More than just housing - it's about quality of life, sustainability and community.[1][8]
