GEPA is Europe's largest alternative trading organization and has stood for fair trade for almost fifty years. The name GEPA stands for "Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Partnerschaft mit der Dritten Welt mbH" and reflects the commitment to a just and sustainable world economy.
GEPA offers a wide range of products, including about 300 food items and around 350 handicraft products. A large portion of the food is organic certified, and the company places great importance on ecological and social sustainability. The products are produced in close cooperation with over 131 cooperatives and organizations in 45 countries.
The main mission of GEPA is to improve the living and working conditions of people in the Global South. The company advocates for fair prices, long-term partnerships, and transparency in the supply chains. The principle of "People and Planet before Profit" is at the heart of all activities.
GEPA is strongly committed to sustainability and climate justice. The company has published a comprehensive sustainability report for the first time to underline its transparency and credibility. GEPA supports organic farming, uses environmentally friendly packaging, and rejects genetically modified ingredients. GEPA works closely with various organizations, including the Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst (EED), Misereor, and the Bund der Deutschen Katholischen Jugend. As a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) and the Forum Fairer Handel, GEPA is also politically engaged for a supply chain law with corporate liability.
