The Gemeinschaftsklärwerk Bitterfeld-Wolfen (GKW) is one of the largest and most modern wastewater treatment plants in Central Germany. It was commissioned in 1994 and is responsible for the treatment of industrial wastewater from the Bitterfeld-Wolfen chemical park as well as municipal wastewater from the catchment area of the wastewater association Westliche Mulde[1][3].
The main mission of the GKW is to protect the environment through efficient and safe wastewater treatment. Important values are responsibility, sustainability, and adherence to high quality and occupational safety standards[3][5].
