The Gutenbergheim Wangerooge is a traditional school camp on the East Frisian Island Wangerooge, which has been run by a dedicated association since 1931. Founded by teachers and parents of the Gutenbergschule in Bielefeld as "Inselheim Gutenbergschule", it has since served as an idyllic retreat directly behind a dune, only 100 meters from the guarded beach.[1][4][9]
The roots go back to 1929, when the property was rented. In 1931, the first building was created from a converted wooden barrack from Wilhelmshaven, which offered space for 40 people and was inaugurated in 1932. After destruction in the Second World War and looting in 1945, the home was renovated and reopened in 1948 by dedicated parents and teachers. In the following decades, the offer was continuously expanded: New houses (home manager's house, House II, House III), extensions, a playground, sports field, barbecue hut and laundry drying area make it a modern oasis today.[1][4]
With a capacity for over 100 guests in two houses - mainly four-bed rooms, plus single and double rooms for supervisors with their own bathroom - the Gutenbergheim is aimed at school classes, children's and youth groups, music groups, families and seminar participants. It is ideal for leisure, class trips, seminars, team events, family celebrations, concerts or private occasions.[2][3][4][8]
The facilities include:
Fresh dishes in the dining room every day provide culinary highlights, matching the relaxed island atmosphere.[6]
The main mission of the association is to offer children, young people and groups unforgettable experiences in close connection with nature. In a quiet location - three kilometers from the village - the home promotes concentration, team spirit and relaxation. Values such as community, education and sustainability are at the center: The association, led by a board of educators and experts, maintains a familiar, helpful atmosphere that guests praise as "quiet and pleasant".[1][4][7]
On Wangerooge, the smallest East Frisian Island with narrow-gauge railway, lighthouses, dunes, rich bird life (over 200 species) and striking ebb and flow change, adventure awaits. The main beach with baskets, the island museum, adventure pool, shopping in the village or sunsets directly at the house make every stay unique.[4][5]
Sustainability characterizes the commitment: Current initiatives such as the financing of a new cooling and freezer cell underline the focus on environmentally friendly, long-lasting solutions. Vacancies such as the Federal Volunteer Service and last-minute offers invite you to participate.[4][9]
The Gutenbergheim combines over 90 years of tradition with modern hospitality - perfect for groups looking for nature, education and community. (2487 characters incl. spaces)
