The HafenCity Hamburg GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and is responsible for integrated urban development management for the new district HafenCity. This project is Europe's largest inner-city urban development project and covers an area of about 157 hectares in the former port area.
The main mission of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH is to shape HafenCity as a future-oriented and sustainable district. The company places great importance on innovation, sustainability, and urbanity. Through close collaboration with various disciplines such as engineering, urban planning, and economics, comprehensive and integrated urban development is ensured.
The HafenCity Hamburg GmbH is committed to sustainable urban development, characterized by innovative heat supply, its own sustainability certifications for buildings, and sustainable mobility concepts. Additionally, flood protection plays a central role in the development of the district. HafenCity is to become a model for the new sustainable European city by the water.
HafenCity is continuously evolving and today offers a unique mix of living, working, culture, and leisure. With the opening of new promenades and parks, the district is becoming increasingly attractive. The U-Bahn line U4 connects HafenCity directly with the city center. Additionally, a new zero-emission building is being constructed as the headquarters of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, which combines architectural and sustainable challenges.
The HafenCity Hamburg GmbH is not only responsible for HafenCity but is also involved in other urban development projects, such as Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld, where science and urban development are strategically intertwined.
