The Hans und Ilse Breuer Stiftung is a non-profit organization based in Frankfurt that, since its founding in 2000, has been dedicated to decisively improving the lives of people with dementia and their families.[1][2] Founded by entrepreneur Hans Breuer and his sons, after his death in 2002, the eldest son Peter Breuer took over as chairman of the board of trustees and strategically and financially drives the work forward.[1][2] With the motto "Helping and Researching", the foundation pursues two core goals: direct assistance to those affected and the promotion of basic scientific research into Alzheimer's and other dementia diseases.[1][2][8]
The foundation offers comprehensive support through its in Offenbach. Here, those affected and their relatives have a central point of contact:
In addition, the foundation cooperates with the Bürgerinstitut for the platform "Demenz – was tun?", which offers practical guidance based on everyday experiences.[6] Cultural initiatives such as readings on "Lückenleben" in cooperation with the city library and the StattHaus promote awareness and dialogue.[2]
The main mission revolves around solidarity and innovation: the foundation not only improves everyday life, but also drives long-term progress through research. Values such as commitment, empathy and sustainability shape the actions – from supporting vulnerable groups to projects such as "Demenzfreundliches Kronberg" in partnership with the Rotary Club.[10] Peter Breuer's personal commitment underlines the family responsibility.[1]
Since 2006, the foundation has awarded the renowned Alzheimer-Forschungspreis (endowed with 100,000 euros), which has so far honored 25 scientists.[9] These are supplemented by Publikationspreise 2025 zum Thema Demenz, which reward innovative findings.[9] In 2025, the foundation celebrates 25 YEARS OF COMMITMENT, which underlines its continued relevance.[8]
Although no explicit environmental goals are mentioned, the work is sustainably oriented: it creates long-lasting structures such as the StattHaus, promotes inclusion and strengthens communities. Donations and partnerships secure funding to ensure help and research in the long term.[4] Projects such as dementia-friendly cities contribute to a social transformation in which dementia is not isolated, but mastered together.[10]
The Hans und Ilse Breuer Stiftung embodies hope and agency: it transforms challenges into opportunities for thousands of people affected and pushes medical boundaries. With over two decades of experience, it remains a beacon in the fight against dementia.[1][8]
