Justdiggit is a Dutch non-profit organization committed to restoring and re-greening degraded landscapes in Africa. Founded in 2009 as the NAGA Foundation, Justdiggit has grown into an international movement that inspires millions of people to actively contribute to the restoration of nature. The organization believes in the power of nature and that together the earth can be made greener and cooler again.
The core business of Justdiggit lies in the large-scale restoration of ecosystems through nature-based solutions. These include techniques such as creating water dams (Bunds), restoring trees and promoting sustainable land use. These measures help to stabilize the soil, improve water storage and promote local biodiversity. Particularly in dry and drought-affected regions of sub-Saharan Africa, viable landscapes are being created again that can be used for agriculture, water supply and natural resources.
The mission of Justdiggit is to combat global warming and mitigate the effects of climate change. Through re-greening, carbon is sequestered, the greenhouse effect is reduced and the local climate is cooled. At the same time, the organization strengthens the resilience of local communities to climate change and creates opportunities for sustainable development. The projects are always carried out in close cooperation with the affected communities to ensure a long-term impact and local acceptance.
A special feature of Justdiggit is the innovative use of media and communication. The organization uses all available means of communication to amplify the impact of its projects and create a broad movement for landscape restoration. With this strategic combination of practical re-greening and public impact, it is succeeding in advancing re-greening throughout Africa.
Justdiggit attaches great importance to sustainability and long-term impact. After the implementation phase, in which the actual re-greening measures are carried out, the so-called sustainability phase follows. In this phase, the focus is on monitoring, awareness-raising and contact with the local communities to ensure that the new vegetation areas are preserved in the long term and are not degraded again.
The organization has been recognized as a non-profit since 2010, is a member of "1% for the Planet" and was awarded CBF recognition in 2024. Justdiggit is guided by the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contributes to combating poverty, hunger, water scarcity and biodiversity loss.
With over 475,000 hectares restored and more than 23 million trees brought back to life, Justdiggit has already achieved a measurable impact. The organization sees itself as part of the "Decade of Doing" - a time in which action is finally being taken to bring nature back on our side.
