Haus Michael is an established youth welfare institution in Wuppertal, which has been active as a non-profit organization for independent youth welfare since 1976. As a community, Haus Michael offers stationary residential groups for children and adolescents who live and are supported in a relationship-oriented, therapeutic educational environment. The institution places particular emphasis on individual development support, needs-oriented support and strengthening self-esteem through help for self-help. Social, psychological and practical challenges are addressed holistically in order to prepare young people in the best possible way for an independent adult life.
The pedagogical specialists include state-recognized educators, social workers, special education teachers, creative therapists and certified educators who ensure familiar and continuous care. With a staffing ratio in the pedagogical area that enables intensive support with night duty, individual support is guaranteed.
A special unique selling point of Haus Michael is the animal-assisted approach, in particular therapeutic riding. As part of this offer, the social and emotional skills of children and adolescents are strengthened, trust is built and self-confidence is promoted. The care and provision of the animals, the infrastructure for the riding offers and special therapeutic programs are firmly anchored in the concept and are being expanded sustainably.
Haus Michael pursues a clear mission to accompany children and adolescents with psychological, social and developmental challenges in a safe, supportive community and to enable them to participate in social life, reintegrate into school, training and family, and promote their independence. Sustainability is reflected in the responsible animal-assisted work as well as in the long-term and careful care that takes resources and personal development into account equally. Supporting donations flow specifically into the care of the animals and the expansion of the therapeutic offers in order to secure them sustainably.
