The Hermann-Schafft-Schule in Homberg (Efze) is a supra-regional special school that specializes in the education and support of students with hearing and visual impairments. As a supra-regional advice and support center (üBFZ), the school offers a comprehensive range of services that includes both teaching in the special school and inclusive education in general schools.
The school is divided into the areas of "School for Hearing" and "School Branch Seeing" and offers differentiated educational opportunities from the pre-class to the elementary level to the middle and main level. A special focus is on the individual promotion of personality development, the strengthening of social skills and the preparation for professional life.
The concept of animal-assisted pedagogy with school dog, bees, llamas and goats is unique, offering students a variety of learning and experience opportunities. The school's Makerspace enables students to develop their creative and technical skills by programming robots, building with 3D printers and realizing their own projects.
The Hermann-Schafft-Schule is strongly committed to inclusion and offers a wide range of advisory and support services for students, parents, teachers and school authorities. The counseling centers for Pedagogical Audiology and for visual impairments offer comprehensive diagnostics, counseling and support for children with hearing and visual impairments and their families.
The school attaches importance to a healthy diet and offers a healthy breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria. The students have the opportunity to actively participate in school life, for example through the student council (SV) and various working groups (AGs).
