The Hessische Krebsgesellschaft e.V. is a non-profit association based in Frankfurt am Main, existing since 1952, which unites oncologically active doctors, scientists, sponsors, affected people and interested parties. As a central force in the fight against cancer in Hessen, it pursues exclusively non-profit purposes and is registered in the register of associations.[1][2]
The core mission of the society is the promotion of public health through the deepening of oncological knowledge and support of cancer research. It provides information about cancer diseases, early detection, treatment options, aftercare and palliative care and is committed to expanding care for cancer patients. It advises and consults on health and social legislation to strengthen and care. Values such as selflessness, networking and patient-centered care shape its actions: It supports cancer patients, relatives and organizations to ensure quality of life and promote reintegration.[1][2][4]
Although primarily focused on health promotion, the society integrates sustainable approaches into its work: Long-term projects such as the expansion of psychosocial care and prevention initiatives aim at a lasting improvement of cancer care. Cooperations with the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration and health insurance companies ensure stable funding for outpatient counseling. The society emphasizes transparency in funding and follows guidelines for ethical cooperation, for example with the pharmaceutical industry, to ensure independent cancer control.[4][8][9]
For over 70 years, the Hessische Krebsgesellschaft has developed from a counseling association to an active oncology network. With teams led by committed presidents and board members such as Prof. Dr. Jackisch, it offers local help - from prevention to life support. As a top-level organization, it combines expertise and empathy to combat cancer diseases more effectively and open up new perspectives for those affected.[2][4]
